Donna Kachinskas , PhD, ND

Background and Training
Dr. Kachinskas began her training at the University of California, Davis earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, a Master of Arts in zoology and a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology. She then completed a NIH funded post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California Berkeley campus in the Department of Nutrition. She returned to the Davis campus and her family where she followed a research career path studying the molecular and genetic factors in the development of cancer and obesity.
Several health crises in her family led Dr. Kachinskas to the conclusion that conventional medicine was too limited in its approaches and having discovered naturopathic medicine during her time in Berkeley she decided that it was time for a fork in her career path. She decided to spend the next half of her career integrating conventional medicine and complementary medicine to help individuals get healthy and stay healthy. With the support of her family, she returned to school and earned her four year Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University, completing 316 credits, and 4,100 hours of coursework of study and supervised primary care clinical practice with emphasis in Cancer, Botanical Medicine, Counseling, Nutritional Therapies, Equine Therapy and Homeopathy.
Dr. Kachinskas completed two cancer care residencies in Seattle, one at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and the other at the Swedish Comprehensive Breast Center.
She is also an adjunct faculty at Bastyr University where she teaches pharmacology to the medical students.
Dr. Donna Kachinskas is licensed as a primary care physician by the state of Washington.
Philosophy
Dr. Kachinskas has a unique background with extensive training in both complementary and conventional medicine which allows her to function easily in both environments. She can work with you as your primary care physician, coordinating any specialty care you may require or as a specialist, consulting with you and your existing medical team as an expert on naturopathic treatments and how they might be integrated into your current care as well as evaluating any potential interactions.
As a naturopathic physician, Dr. Kachinskas' first approach is to help your body do its own healing with occasional help from herbs and supplements and finally using pharmaceuticals only if necessary. She believes in treating the whole person and helping restore balance to the body, spirit and life connections.
Dr. Kachinskas is focused on integrating and balancing both conventional and complementary approaches to good health, having spent her research career studying the causes of cancer and her medical career finding ways to prevent it.
She specializes in women's health issues such as menopause as well as metabolic disorders, chronic illness, cancer prevention and cancer supportive care.
Donna and her husband currently ride and live with two horses when not playing with their dogs, cats and parrots in Carnation, WA.
